Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya
Architect of the Krishnarajasagar dam; steel doors designed to stop the flow of wasted water from the dam; Bestowed by Bharat Ratna. Sir Mokshagundam Vishvesvaraya was a prominent engineer and statesman and played an important role in the construction of modern India. Sir M. Visvesvaraya was born on September 15, 1860 in the village of Muddenahalli in the Kolar region of the former monarchy of Mysore (now Karnataka). His father, Srinivasa Shastri, was a Sanskrit scholar and Ayurvedic monk. His mother, Venkakamma, was a religious woman. He lost his father when his age was years 15 old.
